The League of Women Voters LaPorte County will hold our Dinner With The League program on Tuesday, May 11 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Nora Ryszka is a Michigan City native. She and her husband and two young daughters moved back home in 2016 and opened up the Rising Phoenix Art Gallery. In 2018 Nora began a weekly beach clean-up called Monday Mornings. Each week volunteers, including LWVLC members, meet to pick up the accumulation of litter and debris along the lakefront. Much of this litter on the beach washes up from the lake. In 2019 Nora was recognized for these efforts with a Quality of Life Rose Award. This spring, Nora was inspired to begin The Great Michigan City Green Clean, a grassroots movement centered on building community, beautifying Michigan City, taking care of the Earth and protecting the watershed by picking up litter in neighborhoods and along roadways.
